How it works

What Happens in Class?

Every class follows the same four steps: see a new idea, try it straight away, ask anything, and build on last week.

  1. 1

The teacher shows a new idea on the whiteboard

Each idea is worked through step by step with pictures, objects and real-life examples, like sharing apples or telling the time.

  2. 2

    Children try it themselves

Straight after, children solve similar problems on paper while the teacher checks how they got there, not only the answer.

  3. 3

    Questions any time

In a small group, every child is heard. If something is not clear, the teacher explains it another way.

  4. 4

Each class builds on the last

Place value leads to adding and subtracting, which leads to multiplication, division and fractions.

Learning Goals

By the end, children work confidently with the Grade 3 topics that later maths depends on.

  1. 1

Read, write and compare numbers up to 4 digits

Understand what each digit is worth, so bigger numbers make sense.

  2. 2

Add, subtract, multiply and divide with confidence

Including carrying and borrowing, and knowing what multiplication and division mean.

  3. 3

Use fractions, measurement, time and money

See fractions as equal parts, and use maths in everyday life.
